Regenerative medicine specialists conduct research and develop medical treatments and procedures to restore, replace, modify, or re-create cells, tissues, or entire organs that have been lost due to disease, age, injury or other damage, or congenital disorders. Major specialties include tissue engineering and biomaterials, cellular therapies, and medical devices and artificial organs. Regenerative medicine specialists are also known as orthobiologics specialists. They are also known by their occupational specialty names (e.g., regenerative medicine scientist, engineer, technologist, technician).
