Informatics Nurse Specialists

Informatics nurse specialists work on the technical side of the medical field. They manage health care data systems and share information with nurses, health care providers, patients, and consumers. They prepare and maintain computerized systems and train and supervise users of the systems. They analyze the patient, nursing, and health care information systems to determine ways to improve nursing services. Informatics nurse specialists work in hospitals and large medical facilities, as well as in organizations that focus on public health or global health, and in pharmacology. The job closest to that of informatics nurse specialists that the Bureau of Labor Statistics provides information on is computer systems analysts. There are 589,000 computer systems analysts employed in the United States. About 23,300 worked in hospitals and medical offices, and a smaller subest of that number worked as informatics nurse specialists.
