Many hospitals, nursing homes, outpatient care centers, and other healthcare facilities experience shortages of skilled nurses. These shortages can dramatically affect the quality of patient care and create stressful working conditions for staff. Many employers hire traveling nurses to fill gaps in care. These nurses have at least one year of experience and work in various nursing specialties such as emergency care, geriatrics, surgery, and oncology. Traveling nurses are also known as travel nurses.
