Traveling Nurses

Employment Prospects

Employers

Traveling nurses are employed by travel nurse staffing agencies of all sizes. Well-known staffing agencies include AMN Healthcare, Anders Group, Trustaff, AYA, Nightingale Nursing, Mellenia Medical Staffing, and Trinity Staffing Group. TravelNursing.org reports that there are 340 travel nurse staffing agencies in the U.S.; about one-third are certified by the Joint Commission (https://www.jointcommission.org). Traveling nurses may also work for government agencies. For example, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has an Office of Nursing Service Travel Corps (https://www.va.gov/NURSING/Workforce/ONS-TC.asp). Nurses in this program are assigned to Veterans Affairs medical centers in all 50 states, as well as in Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
