Industrial-Organizational Psychologists


Industrial-organizational psychology is the “scientific study of working and the application of that science to workplace issues facing individuals, teams, and organizations,” according to the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), which has approximately 8,000 members. Industrial-organizational psychologists use psychological principles and research methods to study businesses and other organizations to improve the performance and well-being of individuals and work teams. Areas of specialization include training and development, individual assessment, work motivation, group and organizational processes, personnel psychology, organizational behavior and psychology, employee recruitment and retention, job analysis, human factors and engineering psychology, psychometrics, and many other areas.
