Addiction Therapists

Overview

Addiction therapists provide counseling to people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol and/or to those who are engaging in other destructive behaviors such as excessive gambling, shopping, overeating; involved in toxic relationships; or spending hours and hours using social media or playing video games. Psychiatrists and psychologists sometimes provide counseling regarding these issues, but more often they are provided by specialized therapists. Addiction therapists are also known as substance abuse, behavioral disorder, mental health, and marriage and family therapists and counselors.
