Community Nutrition Educators

Overview

Chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and chronic lung disease are the leading cause of death in the United States. While death (and taxes) can’t be avoided, the chance of being diagnosed with and prematurely dying from a chronic disease can be greatly reduced if one eats healthfully, exercises, and otherwise engages in activities that promote good health. Many people are unaware of the steps they must take to live a healthy life, or they face socioeconomic or other barriers to good health. Community nutrition educators teach individuals and groups (especially those who live in impoverished areas) about the benefits of proper nutrition and healthy eating.
