Community Nutrition Educators

Unions and Associations

Community nutrition educators do not belong to unions, but they can join public health organizations that provide publications, networking opportunities, career information, and professional development classes and webinars. For example, members of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior receive access to continuing education classes and seminars that help them to develop their leadership and professional skills; subscriptions to the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior and SNEB eCommunicator, the organization’s online newsletter; and access to member-only forums; among other benefits. College students are eligible to join the society. Members of the Community Health Workers Section of the American Public Health Association can access mentorship and networking opportunities, as well as learn about job openings. Other useful organizations include the National Association of Community Health Workers, Society for Public Health Education (which has a Public Health Nutrition Community of Practice area), Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the American Society for Nutrition.
