Informatics Nurse Specialists

Work Environment

Informatics nurse specialists work in offices in a variety of settings: hospitals, health care facilities, consulting firms, corporations, and universities. They spend much of the workday on computers, evaluating software programs and systems, creating reports, and e-mailing with co-workers and other team members and supervisors. They may also spend time in meetings and training staff in the use of health care systems. The work can be stressful, particularly when dealing with many different types of people, settings, and deadlines. Adaptability, flexibility, and cooperation are called upon regularly in this job.
