CRISPR Scientists

Overview

Deoxyribonucleic acid (which is more commonly known as DNA) is the hereditary material of humans and almost all other organisms. DNA is contained in our genes, the units of heredity that are transmitted from parents to offspring and control or determine a single characteristic in the offspring. Altering a DNA sequence in a living cell is known as gene editing or genome editing. CRISPR scientists use the CRISPR genome engineering tool to edit or remove genes that cause disease or other medical conditions; increase the shelf life and improve the nutritional value and taste of fruits and vegetables, and develop new sources of bioenergy.
