Bicycle Mechanics

Earnings

Many bicycle mechanics work a standard 40-hour week. In some areas of the country, mechanics may find that their hours increase in the spring, when people bring their bikes out of storage, and decrease when the weather gets colder. Workers in this field are typically paid on an hourly basis. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in May 2023 salaries for bicycle repairers ranged from less than $13.78 per hour (or less than $28,670 per year) for the lowest 10 percent, comprising trainees and inexperienced mechanics, to $23.51 or more an hour ($48,910 per year) for the top 10 percent. The median salary for bicycle repairers was $18.42 an hour, or $38,320 per year. Fifty percent of bicycle mechanics earned between $16.41 and $21.70 (or $34,140 to $45,130 annually).

Benefits vary depending on the shop or facility where the mechanic is employed and the number of hours worked. Some jobs may include standard benefits.
