Family and consumer scientists who work as teachers for school systems and colleges and universities may be members of unions such as the American Federation of Teachers (http://www.aft.org) and National Education Association (http://www.nea.org). The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences is the major association for family and consumer scientists. It accredits undergraduate family and consumer science programs, offers certification, and provides a variety of information on careers at its Web site.
