In 2025, portfolio managers earned salaries that ranged from $105,000 to $155,500, according to the staffing firm Robert Half. Managers at top funds can earn more than $500,000 a year.

PayScale.com reports that portfolio managers in all financial sectors earned salaries that ranged from $64,000 to $160,000 in January 2025, with average salaries of $101,502. They also received bonuses that ranged from $3,000 to $36,000; profit sharing of $1,000 to $22,000; and commissions that ranged from $2,000 to $55,000.

Mutual fund companies provide a variety of fringe benefits, such as paid holidays, vacations, sick days; and personal days; profit-sharing plans; 401(k) plans; retirement and pension plans; educational reimbursement; medical, dental, and life insurance; and licensing reimbursement (to complete Series 7, 63, and/or 66 licensing from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority).
