Mutual Fund Portfolio Managers

Unions and Associations

Portfolio managers do not belong to unions, but many professional associations provide membership, networking events, continuing education (CE) classes and webinars, publications, and career resources. The Investment Company Institute is a “leading global association of regulated funds, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, closed-end funds, and unit investment trusts in the United States and similar funds offered to investors in jurisdictions worldwide.” It offers CE opportunities and publishes the Investment Company Fact Book, an annual guide to the industry that features statistics and other information and a list of U.S.-registered investment companies. The CFA Institute provides the chartered financial analyst credential and professional development opportunities. Other noteworthy organizations include the Association for Financial Professionals, International Association for Quantitative Finance, Investments & Wealth Institute, CFA Society New York, and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
