Wages for confectionery workers vary widely depending on such factors as the workers' skills and the size and the geographic location of the plant. Food batchmakers in the sugar and confectionery production industry earned a mean annual salary of $40,140, or $19.30 per hour, in May 2023, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Entry-level, unskilled workers, such as helpers, may earn little more than the minimum wage, especially in smaller and nonunion factories. The highest paid 10 percent of food batchmakers earned annual salaries of $55,640 or more in May 2023, and the lowest paid 10 percent earned less than $29,480. Fifty percent of food batchmakers earned between $29,480 and $47,170.
Depending on the employer, confectionery workers may receive benefits such as health insurance, time and a half pay for overtime, vacation days, and retirement plans.
