Unions and Associations

Some librarians are members of the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees and other unions. The American Library Association is the leading organization for librarians and library paraprofessionals in the United States. It is made up of 11 membership divisions, which includes the American Association of School Librarians, Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, Association for Library Service to Children, Association of College & Research Libraries, Association of Specialized & Cooperative Library Agencies, Library & Information Technology Association, Library Leadership & Management Association, Public Library Association, Reference & User Services Association, United for Libraries, and the Young Adult Library Services Association. There are many other organizations for library professionals including the American Association of Law Libraries, Association for Information Science and Technology, Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries, Association of Research Libraries, and the Special Libraries Association.
