Hazardous materials removal workers had median annual earnings of $42,030 in May 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Those in the lowest 10 percent earned less than $27,910 annually, and those in the highest 10 percent earned  $75,840 or more. In July 2019, PayScale reported the national average salary for asbestos abatement workers was about $32,365 ($15.56 per hour). Apprentices earn about 50 percent of journeymen (skilled asbestos abatement technicians) wages, including fringe benefits. With larger companies, full-time asbestos abatement technicians can expect some benefits, such as health and life insurance. Most employers also pay for initial training and annual refresher courses.
