History
Ever since the Boston Latin School, both the oldest existing school and the first public school in the United States, was founded in 1635 there has been a need for skilled professionals to assess and improve school curriculums. These professionals also introduce new textbooks and supporting materials, and otherwise enhance the quality of student education.
In 1943, the ASCD (formerly known as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) was founded to represent the professional interests of instructional coordinators, superintendents, principals, teachers, preservice teachers, and other education professionals. Today, the ASCD represents nearly 113,600 educators from approximately 130 countries.
