Instructional Coordinators

Unions and Associations

Instructional coordinators do not belong to unions, and there are few membership groups specific to this profession. The ASCD offers membership categories for college students and professional instructional coordinators, publishes Educational Leadership; offers members-only webinars; and hosts an annual conference, the Conference on Teaching Excellence, and the Conference on Educational Leadership. Another useful organization is Learning Forward, which offers membership, continuing education opportunities, and other resources.

In a general sense, instructional coordinators may join the American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association, and other unions for educators. They may also become members of specialized associations that match their area of interest, such as the National Council for the Social Studies, International Literacy Association, Council for Exceptional Children, and the National Association for Music Education. These groups are not exclusive to instructional coordinators.
