Apprentices begin at about 50 percent of the rate paid to experienced workers and receive periodic pay increases throughout their training.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the mean annual earnings for insulation workers–floor, ceiling, and wall were $47,450 in May 2023. Salaries ranged from less than $33,210 to $78,000 or more. Mechanical insulation workers earned median yearly salaries of $53,920. Ten percent earned less than $38,910, while the highest-paid workers earned $90,760 or more.

Fringe benefits, such as health insurance, pension funds, and paid vacations, are available to some workers in this field and vary with local union contracts. In general, benefits are more likely to be offered on jobs staffed by union workers.
