Certification or Licensing
Security systems installers and repairers who wish to advance their skills can receive certification through vocational schools and industry associations. The International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians and the Electronics Technicians Association International provide certification credentials for electronics technicians.
Licensing requirements vary by state and by occupation. For example, in New York State, entities that engage in the business of installing, servicing, or maintaining security or fire alarm systems must be licensed.
Other Requirements
Some states, such as New York, may require applicants to be at least 18 years old, have completed 81 hours of qualifying education, pass an alarm installer exam, have no criminal convictions, and submit proof of a fingerprint completion.
