Certification or Licensing

The National Tour Association offers the voluntary certified tour professional designation to candidates who have worked a minimum of 18 months in hospitality and/or tourism OR have an associate's or bachelor’s degree in hospitality and/or tourism. They also must complete three courses (Leadership, Management and Administration; Marketing and Sales; and Financial Management) and pass a final exam. Visit https://ntaonline.com/education/ctp for more information. Some cities or counties may require tour guides to have government-issued permits. Requirements vary by locale; check your city or county's Web site for details.
