Distance Learning Coordinators

Outlook

The employment outlook for distance learning coordinators is bright. Online education continues to grow and colleges, universities, and other academic institutions will continue to expand their Web-based educational programs. The research group Global Market Insights estimated the value of the e-learning market as $399.3 billion in 2022, and projects that its market value will grow by 14 percent through 2032. Additionally, more corporations are expected to adopt and promote online education and training programs. Distance learning coordinators will be needed to oversee these programs.

The U.S. Department of Labor provides an employment outlook for the related career of instructional coordinator. It reports that coordinators who work at local colleges, universities, and professional schools (CUPSs) will grow 11.6 percent from 2023 to 2033. This is much faster than the average for all careers. Job opportunities for those who work at state CUPSs will increase faster than the average, while slower-than-average growth is expected for coordinators at private CUPSs.

Distance learning coordinators who have a master's degree, several years of work experience, and who are up to speed on the latest technologies and software programs used in the field will have good chances of securing a good job.
