Elevator Installers and Repairers

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that employment for elevator installers and repairers will grow faster than the average for all careers through 2028. Job prospects for those who wish to enter this field should be good, as new nonresidential construction projects should create a demand for elevator installers and repairers. There will also be some need to replace workers, although the turnover in this field is relatively low because the extensive training people go through to gain these jobs results in high wages, which prompts workers to remain in the field. Due to the growing elderly population in the United States, professionals will also be needed to install and service stair lifts and elevators in homes. Opportunities will be best for those with specialized postsecondary training in electronics or experience with electronics in the military.
