Fabric Designers

Outlook

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) does not provide employment outlook information and predictions specifically for fabric designers. But it does report that average employment growth, about 5 percent, is expected for fashion designers (which are a design occupation in the textile industry) through 2033.

As retailers sell more fashion-inspired clothing, demand will increase for fashion designers and fabric designers to create clothing for the mass market and everyday wear. The BLS pointed out that social media influencers and retailers advertising and selling directly to consumers online are also driving the increased demand for new fashion designs. In addition, consumers have become more interested in sustainable fashion, such as fabrics and designs that are eco- and vegan-friendly. Fabric designers who focus on these areas will have an edge in the job market in the coming years.
