Unions and Associations

Fabric designers do not typically belong to unions.

Trade associations and professional societies provide career guidance, educational opportunities, conferences, and other resources that can be extremelly helpful to college students and those new to the field. Those interested in the design of industrial and specialty fabrics, as well as the advanced textiles industry, should check out resources from the Industrial Fabrics Association. The International Textile and Apparel Association is a professional, educational association composed of educators and students in the textile, apparel, and merchandising disciplines in higher education. It offers conferences, seminars, and educational materials. The Surface Design Association focuses on textile-inspired art and design. The Council of Fashion Designers is a professional trade association consisting of fashion designers in the womensware, mensware, jewelry, and accessories areas.
