Some guidance counselors are represented by teacher unions such as the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association. Many are members of professional associations such as the American Counseling Association, American School Counselor Association, and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. The National Board for Certified Counselors and Affiliates Inc. offers certification to counselors.
