Power Plant Workers

Although union membership is not necessarily a requirement for employment, many workers in power plants are members of either the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or the Utility Workers Union of America. Union members typically receive higher pay than nonunion members. The American Public Power Association Describes itself as the "voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities that power approximately 2,000 towns and cities nationwide." It offers information on careers on its Web site. The Edison Electric Institute represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies, which provide electricity for nearly 250 million Americans.
