Non-Destructive Testing Specialists

Overview

Non-destructive testing specialists examine structures, materials, and components to determine if there are any defects or problems. They conduct tests in ways that are not destructive to the objects being examined. Specialists work in industries such as energy and utilities, transportation, aerospace and defense, and manufacturing (durable goods). They use various methods and tools to conduct these tests, such as X-ray and ultrasonic equipment, and then come up with plans for correction that are in accordance with safety laws and regulations. There are approximately 83,360 engineering technicians, all others not listed separately, employed in the United States, according to the Department of Labor.
