App Services Workers

Overview

App services workers (ASWs) fulfill requests for goods or services that are made by customers via software applications from companies such as Grubhub, DoorDash, Uber, Instacart, and Postmates. Major companies such as Amazon (via its Amazon Flex delivery app), Target (Shipt), and IKEA (TaskRabbit) also offer opportunities for ASWs. These workers perform a variety of tasks such as driving people from one location to another; delivering groceries, take-out meals, alcohol, and almost any other goods that could be conceivably delivered; assembling furniture and other products; performing basic home repairs or yard work; and doing a variety of other tasks. App services workers are categorized under the more general term of gig workers, who are freelance workers who take on short-term assignments (including writing, accounting, and programming) from a variety of employers to earn a living.
