Autonomous vehicle safety and test drivers ride along in autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles that are being tested on test tracks and public roads. They sit behind the wheel and are ready to take control of the vehicle, if necessary, and sometimes work with a software engineer (who rides in the passenger seat) to assess vehicle performance and collect data.
