Publicity Photographers

Outlook

Employment of photographers will decline by 6 percent through 2028, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, although self-employed photographers, specifically, will experience growth of 10 percent. Photography is a highly competitive field. While the Internet has enabled professional photographers to market their services to a wider audience, digital photography has intensified the competition. More people have access to digital photography equipment and are able to take and store pictures, reducing the barrier of entry into this profession. Now more than ever, there are far more photographers than positions available (especially in large, metropolitan areas). Only those who are extremely talented and highly skilled can support themselves as self-employed photographers. Many photographers take pictures as a sideline while working another job.

Despite slower-than-average growth, there will continue to be demand for new images in business, education, communication, marketing, and research.
