Film and Television Editors

Outlook

Employment for film and video editors and camera operators will grow by 14 percent through 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), or much faster than the average for all careers. Film editors will have more opportunities due to the increase in special effects and demand for content. The growth of cable television, the increase in the number of independent film studios, and the emergence of online and mobile television and other content delivery methods for movies and television will translate into greater demand for editors—although competition for jobs will be very strong. Opportunities for editors in television should also be good because because of an increase in the use of special effects and available content. Editors with knowledge of the latest digital video editing software programs and experience in the field will have the best job prospects.
