Laboratory Technicians and Technologists

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts that employment for clinical laboratory technologists and technicians will grow 11 percent, or much faster than the average, through 2028. In the coming years, more technologists and technicians will be needed to operate and maintain the equipment that is used for diagnosing and treating a range of health conditions. The aging population is expected to increase demand for diagnostic laboratory tests. Additionally, more genetic conditions are being detected through the use of prenatal testing. Laboratory professionals with advanced education and specialized skills will have the best job prospects.
