Library and Information Science Instructors

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) predicts that employment for library science professors will grow about as fast as the average for all careers through 2033. College enrollment is projected to grow through 2031 as more people pursue a higher education. The number of library science educators is small, and competition for full-time, tenure-track positions at four-year schools will be very strong. Library and information science professionals with the highest education will have the best opportunities in coming years.

There will be some demand for educators because of an anticipated demand for librarians during the next decade, a demand for more library science educators as existing educators retire, and continued growth in technology and information-gathering resources.
