Museum Attendants

Outlook

Museums attendants can expect to have good employment opportunities due to the public's increasing awareness of global cultures and an emphasis on intercultural understanding. With that said, it's important to remember that many museum attendant jobs are low paying, and that these positions often serve as a stepping-stone to higher level museum positions.

The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that museum attendance will continue to remain strong, and many museums will be financially healthy and able to schedule building and renovation projects in the years to come. The DOL projects 11 percent employment growth, which is much faster than the average, from 2023 through 2033 for archivists, curators, and museum workers. The outlook for general employment in museums in the coming years is a positive one.

The public education services provided by museum attendants are a core part of a museum's efforts to justify spending. That does not necessarily mean museum employment is high. Rather, greater professionalism will be expected at all levels of museum work, and efforts to recruit and train volunteers for specific tasks will likely increase.
