Solar Thermal Installers and Technicians

The pandemic caused a decline in solar industry growth in 2020 and 2021. The economy has since rebounded and the solar industry has been growing steadily. Solar thermal installers and technicians will continue to find good employment opportunities in the coming years. The Solar Energy Industries Association predicts that "...by 2030, the equivalent of one in eight American homes will have solar...". The SEIA also reports that the U.S. has the third largest market in the world for photovoltaic installations, and is expected to continue growing rapidly in the future. The cost to install solar equipment has dropped by more than 70 percent since 2010, which has been leading to the expansion of solar energy in new markets. According to the SEIA, as of May 2024, there were more than 5 million solar installations in the United States, and that number is expected to double by 2030, and triple by 2034.

The Department of Labor forecasts faster than average employment growth through 2033 for construction laborers and helpers. The Occupational Information Network, a division of the Department of Labor, predicts 6 to 8 percent employment growth, faster than the average, for solar thermal installers and technicians through 2033. Solar thermal installers and technicians will be in demand by residential, commercial, and industrial customers to install, maintain, and repair solar thermal systems. Installers and technicians with several years of experience and certification will have the best job prospects.
