Solar Thermal Installers and Technicians

Unions and Associations

Solar thermal installers and technicians may be represented by unions such as the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (http://ibew.org); International Union of Electronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furniture Workers-Communication Workers of America (https://www.iue-cwa.org); Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (https://www.phccweb.org); and the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Workers (https://www.unionroofers.com), among many others.

Installation managers may belong to professional associations for access to education, certification, training, and other resources. These associations include the American Solar Energy Society, Smart Electric Power Alliance, and the Solar Energy Industries Association. Other renewable energy industry associations of note are the Interstate Renewable Energy Council and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association.

Solar thermal installers and technicians also have access to training and certification through the Electronics Technicians Association International (https://www.etai.org) and the National Roofing Contractors’ Association (https://www.nrca.net); and NABCEP (https://www.nabcep.org).

There are many other professional associations for solar energy professionals. Check the Encyclopedia of Associations, which is published by Gale Cengage Learning, for associations in your field of interest. The publication is available in many community and school libraries.
