Stock Clerks

Experience, Skills, and Personality Traits

No experience is needed to work as a stock clerk, but those with prior work experience will increase their chances of landing a job, getting promoted, and possibly earning higher pay.

Good health and good eyesight are important. A willingness to take orders from supervisors and others is necessary for this work, as is the ability to follow directions. Organizational and time-management skills also are important, as is neatness.

Extra training may be required for stock clerks who handle certain types of materials. Generally those who handle jewelry, liquor, or drugs must be bonded.
