Choreographers

Outlook

Employment of choreographers is projected to increase by 5 percent from 2022 to 2032, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. This is faster than the average for all occupations. Despite this prediction, it's important to remember that only 6,900 professional choreographers are employed in the United States, and competition for jobs is very strong. The best opportunities are found with regional ballet companies, opera companies, and dance groups that are affiliated with colleges and universities. Choreographers with a strong track record of working on acclaimed productions will have the best job prospects. Many choreographers have to augment their careers by working in other fields such as dance education, dance therapy, and arts administration.
