Comic Book Writers

Outlook

Employment of writers and authors is projected to grow about as fast as the average for all careers from 2023 to 2033, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Despite this prediction, competition for writing jobs has been and will continue to be keen, especially in the small and highly competitive field of comic books. The comic book industry has seen many ups and downs over the past several decades, with the age and demographics of comic book readers shifting to older, more discriminating audiences. Graphic novels and comics for older audiences are gaining popularity around the world, which has opened up more vistas for comic book writers in terms of style and theme. Although finding work in the comic book industry can be challenging, doing so is rewarding on many levels for the comic book writer who displays creativity, versatility, and a true passion for the medium itself.
