E-Sports Coaches

Head coaches oversee e-sports teams or individual e-sports competitors. They recruit athletes through scouting, by scheduling tryouts, and by attending e-sports events; create practice schedules and lead practices; devise and oversee their team’s overall strategy; coach athletes during competition; and analyze game footage to identify areas for improvement. They serve as the representative of the team to the media, company or university leaders, and the public. They also manage team budgets, e-sports equipment and technology, and practice and competition facilities. Head coaches are assisted by strategy and performance coaches.

Strategy coaches evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams and players to help provide a strategic advantage during competition. Analytical coaches are specialized strategy coaches who study data (e.g., in-game statistics, player performance metrics) to help identify the strengths and weaknesses in their players, as well as those of opposing players, to obtain a competitive advantage.

Performance coaches help players improve their mental and physical performance during practice and competitions. They often partner with sports psychologists to help athletes develop stress management strategies that help them to stay calm and focused during competition. Performance coaches also help improve communication between team members and coaches and resolve conflicts.
