Environmental Restoration Planners

Environmental restoration planners help make environments cleaner and more sustainable. This profession emerged from the environmental movement in the 1970s, when awareness was raised about the need to preserve and protect the environment and public health. Environmental restoration planners conduct lab and field tests on samples from environments, such as soil and water, to determine the types of pollution that are present and the methods needed to restore environments to comply with environmental laws. They may also issue fines to the owners of the properties or close the properties for environmental and health violations. They work for state and local government agencies and private consulting groups. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, there are approximately 84,600 environmental scientists and specialists, including environmental restoration planners, employed in the United States.
