Space Systems Operators

There has been a need for space systems operators ever since the development of the first radar technology and the launch of the first satellites, spaceships, and rockets. But demand has dramatically increased for operators in recent years because of technological advancements, the emergence of the private space sector, the growth of space tourism, and other factors. The launch of a large number of satellites (especially by private companies such as SpaceX) has also fueled a need for both private sector and military space systems operators. A total of 11,539 satellites were operating in Earth orbit at the end of 2024 compared with just 3,371 in 2020, according to the Satellite Industry Association. Several sources predict that nearly 60,000 additional satellites will be launched by 2030. This data alone suggests that there will be a strong need for space systems operators in the future.
