Earnings for strength and conditioning coaches vary considerably depending on the sport and the person or team being coached.

The National Strength and Conditioning Association conducted a member survey in 2022. It found that strength and conditioning coaches at the high school level earned average salaries of $60,527. College strength and conditioning coaches earned average salaries of $61,923, while independent coaches earned $61,615.

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that the median earnings for all sports coaches were $45,920 in May 2024. The lowest paid 10 percent earned less than $27,490, while the highest paid 10 percent earned more than $93,980.

Strength and conditioning coaches who are employed by professional sports teams can earn hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.

Depending on their employers, most full-time strength and conditioning coaches enjoy a full complement of benefits, including vacation and sick time as well as holidays and medical and dental insurance. Self-employed workers must provide their own benefits.
