Learning how to weld is the best way to obtain hands-on experience in welding. Once you learn the basics, you can build a bookshelf, decorative ironwork, or another metal creation. Learning how to oxy-acetylene weld is the most affordable way to get started. Check out books, YouTube videos, and other resources to learn how to weld. Welding may also be offered in your school’s shop classes. You should also learn how to dive. Join student technical organizations to meet people with shared interests, build your skills, and participate in welding and other STEM competitions. Recommended organizations include SkillsUSA (https://www.skillsusa.org) and Skills Compétences Canada (https://www.skillscompetencescanada.com). Both offer welding competitions.
