Employment in acting is expected to show little or no change through 2028, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. There are a number of reasons for this. On the positive side, the rise of online streaming services and proprietary content has led to an uptick in acting opportunities in film and television. However, employment for actors in theater is expected to grow more slowly than for actors in film and television. The cost of mounting a production has increased in recent years and many nonprofit and smaller theaters have difficulty finding funding. There will be more opportunities at large theaters, which have more stable funding sources.
