Automobile Collision Repairers

Unions and Associations

While union membership is not a requirement for collision repairers, many belong to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers; United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America; International Brotherhood of Teamsters; and SMART, the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers. Most collision repairers who are union members work for large automobile dealers, trucking companies, and bus lines.

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and I-CAR provide certification to automobile collision repairers. The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation accredits collision repair training programs. The Auto Care Association represents repair shops, parts stores, and distribution outlets.
