Motivational Speakers

Earnings

In January 2025, Salary.com reported that the average annual salary for motivational speakers was $80,689. Earnings ranged from $53,568 to $114,751.

Brad Montgomery, a motivational speaker, reports on his Web site (http://www.bradmontgomery.com) that entry-level speakers might earn $2,500 to $3,000 per speech. More experienced, professional motivational speakers might earn $6,000 to $20,000 or more per speech.

Motivational speakers who have had extremely successful careers in politics, sports, education, entertainment, or the military can command per-speech fees of $50,000 or more. The booking fee for Bill Murray, for instance, is $100,000 to $200,00, according to the All American Speakers Bureau. NBA legend, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Magic Johnson earns $200,000 or more per speech. It is important to note that earnings can be sporadic and depend wholly on the ability of the speaker to find clients and appointments.

Since motivational speakers are self-employed, they must provide their own fringe benefits such as health insurance.
