Photojournalists

Outlook

The U.S. Department of Labor reports that employment for photographers at print newspapers will decline by 19.4 percent from 2023 through 2033 as a result of industry consolidation, declines in advertising revenue, and the continuing transition of print publications to digital formats. Faster-than-average is expected for photographers who are self employed and for those who work for media streaming distribution services, social networks, and other media networks and content providers.

Photojournalism is a highly competitive field, but individuals who develop a strong portfolio, develop and maintain professional contacts, and stay on the edge of digital technology will find job opportunities in the future.
